Privacy policy
Effective
This policy covers DviPresenter for Android (the phone app), DviPresenter Desktop for Windows, and this website. “We” means Somanna M, the developer of DviPresenter (somanna.dev). Questions: dvirukthi@gmail.com. In the Android app, this page opens from Settings › About › Privacy policy.
- No account, no ads, and no analytics of our own. We do not sell or share your information.
- The phone app talks only to your own PC, directly over your local network, through an encrypted connection. Your presentations, commands and pairing details never reach us.
- The QR-code scanner in the Android app is Google ML Kit, which may send Google diagnostic information, described below.
Information stored on your phone
- Paired computers: each computer's name, network address and port, its certificate fingerprint and an access token, kept in the phone's encrypted storage.
- Settings: theme, haptics, laser appearance, volume-key options and an optional device name.
- A device ID that the app creates at random. It is not your phone's hardware ID or advertising ID.
- Camera: used only while you scan the pairing QR code. The picture is analysed on the phone; DviPresenter does not store it or send it anywhere.
App data is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer.
What the phone and your PC exchange
The phone app connects only to the computer you pair it with, on your Wi-Fi network or your phone's hotspot. The connection is encrypted (TLS) and checked against the certificate fingerprint in the QR code, and the PC asks you to approve every new phone.
| Sent | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Phone → PC | Device ID, device name (your phone's model or the name you set), platform, model, app version | So you can recognise and approve the phone |
| Phone → PC | Your commands (start, next, previous, black screen and so on) and laser pointer positions | To control the slideshow |
| PC → Phone | Presentation state: file names, slide numbers and titles, elapsed time, laser settings | To show the slideshow status on the phone |
None of this passes through our servers or any other service.
Information stored on your PC
- Approved phones: device ID, name, platform, model, when it was paired, when it last connected and from which local IP address, and a hash (not the value) of its access token.
- The PC's encryption key and certificate. The private key is protected with Windows Data Protection (DPAPI).
- Settings and log files. Logs record events such as connections, with phone names and local IP addresses. They are limited to about 4 MB; older entries are deleted automatically.
Everything is kept in %APPDATA%\DviPresenter (or the folder you choose) and is not sent to us.
Google ML Kit in the Android app
To read the pairing QR code, the Android app uses Google's ML Kit barcode scanning. The scanning itself happens on the phone. According to Google, ML Kit may send Google: device information (manufacturer, model, Android version and build), app information (package name and version), per-installation identifiers that are not intended to identify a user or a physical device, performance metrics, API configuration, and feature sizes, versions, event types and error codes. Google uses this for diagnostics and usage analytics, encrypts it in transit, and states that ML Kit does not transfer it to third parties. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure and the Google Privacy Policy.
Google Play
If you install the Android app from Google Play, Google provides the download and processes information under its own privacy policy. If you allow your phone to share usage and diagnostics with Google, Google may show us crash reports and performance statistics for the app (Android vitals), which we use only to fix problems.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party content. Like most web servers, it keeps access logs (IP address, date and time, the page or file requested and your browser's user agent) for security and troubleshooting, and deletes them after 14 days.
Children
DviPresenter is a tool for presenters and is not directed at children.
Your choices
- Remove a paired computer in the phone app, or a phone on the PC's Phones page, at any time.
- Uninstalling the Android app deletes everything it stored on the phone.
- On Windows, uninstalling removes the program; delete
%APPDATA%\DviPresenterto remove its settings, approved phones and logs as well.
Because we do not receive your information, there is nothing for us to delete; we are happy to answer questions at the address below.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
